Album Review: John Fogerty’s “Revival” a “Natural Thing”
“You can’t go wrong/if you play a little bit of that Creedence song,” at least according to former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman John Fogerty on the iconic rocker’s latest release, “Revival” from Concord Records.
It’s true. The swamp-rock legend, as the New York Times reviewer Jon Pareles put it, “is angry about the war, the [...]
Michigan one of two states to lose population in 2007
The United States Census Bureau reported today that Michigan is one of only two states to lose population in 2007, sharing the dubious recognition with Rhode Island. According to the estimates, Michigan lost about three-tenths of a percent of its population, or approximately 30,500 people. Just over ten million people reside in the state.
The report’s [...]
Benazir Bhutto assassinated in Pakistan
Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in her native Pakistan today, just weeks after returning from exile to challenge the authority of Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf. She was 54.
Bhutto was the first woman elected to lead a Muslim state, first taking office in 1988. Over the course of her political career, she was twice [...]
Movie Review: Hanks shines in Charlie’s War
I went into “Charlie Wilson’s War” with pretty high expectations.

The film discusses [...]

Movie Review: “Sweeney Todd” sure is a handsome devil
Tim Burton and Johnny Depp should not make movies together, and that is exactly what makes “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” - released today by DreamWorks SKG - so deliciously twisted. Set in Victorian London and starring the immensely talented Depp as the razor-wielding, throat-slashing Mr. Todd, the film is frightfully compelling [...]
Movie Review: “I Am Legend” isn’t exactly legendary
As great as Will Smith’s newest Hollywood blockbuster was, it didn’t live up to its title.
I Am Legend jumps right into action from the get-go, with no immediate background information or history, leaving you wondering how in the world New York City became a jungle in between 2009 and 2012.
As the movie goes on, however, [...]
Lighting up the night
With each coming year, it feels as though the Christmas season becomes more and more commercialized. For 13 years, Frederik Meijer Gardens has done its part to deter this with its annual exhibit, “Christmas and Holiday Traditions Around the World.”
This year at the Gardens is no exception, with 33 decorated trees, seven unique displays, and [...]
