AQ Men’s Basketball clinches #1 tournament seed, hits 20 3-pointers to set College record

The Aquinas men’s basketball team soundly defeated UM Dearborn last night 97-58, sinking an incredible twenty 3-point shots to set a new College record. John Lierman, who tied the individual school record with nine 3-point baskets, contributed an awesome 32 points to the win, followed by Jason Fox, who scored 17 off the bench. The win gives the Saints a share of the regular season WHAC title and assures Aquinas a #1 seed in the upcoming WHAC tournament.

“When we play together like that and everyone gets a little part of the action, that’s good teamwork,” said Lierman, a 6-4 shooting guard from Holt, Michigan. Overall the team went 20 for 37 beyond the arc.

“We have really picked up our energy and effort the last two games,” said Aquinas Coach Dave Hammer, in a post-game interview with the Grand Rapids Press. “Clinching a share of the league title is a complement to how hard this team has worked all season and I’m anticipating a great effort come Saturday.”

On Saturday the Saints finish the regular season on the road against Concordia University.
