Beginning in the fall, Calvin College will allow safety personnel with a police background to carry handguns on campus. According to the Grand Rapids Press, College officials approved the new policy over the weekend, following a lengthy debate over an issue that sparked considerable student protest. According to the Press, students wanted more opportunity to share their views with the College.
