Chicago aims to host 2016 Olympics
Chicago will compete to host the 2016 Olympics, the International Olympic Committee announced today. The Midwestern city joins Tokyo, Madrid, and Rio de Janeiro as a finalist for the summer games. The IOC will announce a winner in October 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
If selected, Chicago would bring the summer games back to the United States for the first time since 1996 when the international competition was held in Atlanta, Georgia. The 2008 Summer Games will be held in Beijing, China in August.
The 2012 Summer Games are slated for London, which bested current finalist Madrid in the previous competition.
