Interview with Bishop
Adam Hii: When you first joined Senate did you ever imagine yourself in this position?
Annie Bishop: I originally joined senate out of obligation for my club. I had friends that were senators that really enjoyed being involved so when the need arose I volunteered to represent Tri-Beta. Once I became involved I really enjoyed attending meetings and representing the student body. At the end of the year I mustered the courage to run for Vice Chair.
AH: What part of your new role are you most excited for?
AB: I am very excited to represent the student body to the administration. I believe that there is a notable amount of collaboration between the student body, the faculty, and the staff, but there is always room for more. I look forward to facilitating this union and building stronger ties so that each governing assembly can work collectively towards the enhancement of our school.
AH: What do you feel will be your biggest challenge in this position?
AB: The biggest challenge that we are all facing right now is the transition that our school is going through. I have been working diligently with my executive board and cabinet to ensure that these changes will not hinder us in the future, and that the tradition of student senate will remain strong. This effort requires great dedication and organization and it would not be conceivable without the vast amount of knowledge and devotion that my team possesses.
AH: Do you plan on pursuing future leadership opportunities at AQ or elsewhere? And if so, what?
AB: I am planning on attending Aquinas for another year, during which I will remain an active member of the Student Senate and hopefully cabinet. In the future I plan on utilizing the leadership skills I have gained in my future career in Public Health.
AH: What do you hope to gain from this new leadership role?
AB: There is so much that I have gained from this experience already. I have gained an extensive knowledge of the inner workings of Aquinas and I have been privileged to see the hard work that goes into operating the school. I have also gained organizational skills and I have learned how to facilitate and govern a meeting. I hope to maintain and further improve these skills during the remainder of my term.
